It occurs to me

Keeping in mind the Internet is basically a haven for a lot of insane people, over the years I've read countless musings about how the Bush administration would declare martial law and seize power indefinitely; I've waded through more crap about "October events" and "moving to Canada" and "there will be no more elections," and just kind of on and on like that.

And yet, here we are, on the verge of yet another peaceful transfer of power.

Gosh, it's almost as if we have some sort of Constitution or something.

Yes, because you've never taken such a rumor seriously in your life.

And just as a point of order -- why on earth would Bush or any Republican want to stay in office at this point? The country is collapsing under the weight of crippling debt, two unwinnable wars, and a gutted and destitute domestic economy. Barak Obama basically campaigned for and received a flaming bag of dogshit that the Republicans were obviously happy to be rid of (or do you really believe that the best minds in the GOP honestly thought Sarah Palin was a good idea?).

None of which is to say that conspiracy theories about canceled elections are valid on their own merits, but neither does the current political situation rule any particular conspiracy theory out by default.

Nice to see you're still sniffing around here, from time to time, Joshua. Good to see your talking points are still in order.

And, really, Joshua, THAT was the best link example you could find of me taking a rumor seriously? A Newsweek article I noted in passing, with a comment thread that turned into which Hollywood or porn star would make the best dictator?

You got me, man. You GOT ME.
