My Tenuous Brush With Mixed Martial Arts Fame

Tommy Speer fights tonight in his first UFC appearance since his December loss in the "The Ultimate Fighter" finale. Tom trains at the boxing gym where I do my Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu training. He's an animal, and he's been training like one in preparation for this fight.

Later this month, on April 11, Travis Wiuff will fight in the YAMMA Pit Fighting debut. Travis also trains at the 4th Street Boxing Gym.

Both men are large and strong, and I'd consider it a happy life goal to never be punched by either of them.

UPDATE: Crap. Speer got K.O.'ed.

Yeah, I happened to catch that fight last night - it didnt last long! That Anthony Johnson guy who beat him is a beast.

Man, there were some great fights last night. I missed Tommy's fight and now I'm not so bummed about it. I also missed Karo getting knocked out which does bum me out because he annoys me.

And the new season of TUF started with 8 fights! Really good stuff!

I saw your comments about Tokyo and St. Marys. I went there from 85-89, and was class of 94, so it looks like you would have been a year above me if I had stayed there. I really enjoyed your stories about the school.

Hey Dan. Thanks for the comment. I only had the one year at St. Mary's, but it was definitely a memorable one.
