My Only Political Say. . . For Now

If Hillary Clinton gets the primary nod for the Democrats, I either won't vote for a Prez candidate, or the Republican candidate had better be pretty stellar in the general race, because honestly, I'll have lived 20 years of my life under the national leadership of a Bush or Clinton, and I'm not all that keen on extending that run an additional four to eight years. A new name. PLEASE.

Oh, also, Melissa and I saw the Edwards ad about universal healthcare tonight, and we both laughed until our sides hurt.

Richardson is the guy I was talking about last weekend; love his ad!

Okay. I can think of several reasons why, but I'm curious about yours.

I'll have lived 20 years of my life under the national leadership of a Bush or Clinton, and I'm not all that keen on extending that run an additional four to eight years. A new name. PLEASE.

Yeah, I have that concern too, but is there another Dem you'd even consider? Edwards would get slaughtered, Richardson's completely inarticulate, Obama's a fraud. Dodd and Biden both looked great in this debate, but that's partly because they're playing it with the humor and grace that come from knowing they're not going to win and having a good sense of humor about it (as opposed to the shrillness of the current top 3).

And honestly, Clinton plays to your libertarianism. She's a fiscal conservative who will correct the currency plunge, open trade, and scale back the deficit to bring imports back into the US and keep the CPI down during the impending recession. She will raise taxes, but anyone would have to do that at this point -- the Republicans are just holding out in the hopes that it'll be the Democrats who end up having to take the plunge. Some of those economic moves are the exact reasons I'm reluctant to vote for her, but I'd expect them to play to your priorities.

Re: the Edwards commercial. He says he'll take away healthcare from Congress, which is absurd in that the president has no such power. That's what I found amusing.

Re: a Dem candidate I'd vote for. Richardson may be inarticulate, but that doesn't bother me as much as it apparently bothers you. I could see voting for him, actually. And I totally agree with your assessments of Obama and Edwards.

Re: Hillary as a libertarian. I don't know if I'd say that. She more like a Panderer-in-Chief. Regardless, a 28 year stretch with a Bush or Clinton in office, with Jeb Bush being a possibility down the line (oh, and hey, even a Chelsea Clinton if you want to get all crazy). . . it all just seems so, I don't know. . . Royal? Thronish? Crownish?
